Writer? Author?
Writers write. I think “Tracy Nelson Maurer – Writer” says more than “Tracy Nelson Maurer – Author” about what I do: I write every day. Even before the ink dries on one book, I’m writing something else—a children’s nonfiction book, a children’s fiction book, an adult nonfiction book, a newspaper article, marketing materials, advertisements, e-mails or letters to friends.
“Tracy Nelson Maurer – Author” sounds fine too, I suppose. More than eighty of my books have been published since I started earning a living with words in 1987. The dictionary says that qualifies me for the “author” title.
Over the years, I’ve written for emergent readers, reluctant readers, accelerated readers and adult readers. Most of my high-interest children’s nonfiction books were written for schools and libraries to support academic standards. Some of my books, such as Storm Codes, have won awards.
Almost as much as I like to write, I like to visit with readers and writers to talk about working with words. If your school, library or group would like to arrange a presentation from a writer (and qualified author), contact me by e-mail. I’ll write back. Because that’s what writers do. |
